Mary Lucking
Co-Curator of Artistic Mediums with Andrew Sempere
Mary Lucking creates artworks that help participants richly engage in the environments where they live. Working in media as varied as concrete walls, street signs, and discarded cell phones, she uses materials found in a particular place, and tweaks them so they can be seen in a new way. Her art inhabits mainly non-art-specific spaces, where it can be discovered by accident by a varied audience.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in Architecture, and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Art and Technology. She currently lives in Tucson, Arizona, where she works as a public artist.
Mary's permanent public art commissions can be seen in Massachusetts, Maine, Tennessee, and Arizona. Her projects include art incorporated into urban and rural walking and biking trails, bus and rail stations, traffic circles, and highway rest stops, Her temporary installations have been shown in the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, SIGGRAPH, Sarratt Museum at Vanderbilt University, Arizona State University, Boston CyberArts Festival, and the Cheekwood Museum of Art.
